A serious effort to establish this department began in 1387 (2008) with the transfer of one of the group's members from Imam Sadiq University in Tehran to the University of Zanjan and an official request for faculty recruitment. Unfortunately, due to the policy of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology in reviewing certain humanities fields, including Law, the request for this field was twice rejected and not approved; first, the request for the bachelor's program in Law (year 1391/2012) was proposed and opposed, and then the request for the continuous master's program (year 1392/2013) was opposed. However, ultimately, through the extensive follow-up of the members, especially Dr. Bigdeli, the first head of the department, the establishment license for the field was finally issued in 1393 (2014) at the bachelor's level, and officially from Mehr 1393 (October 2014), the first students of this field entered the university.
Currently, this field has approximately 120 undergraduate students, and several cohorts of students in this field have also graduated. With the recruitment of new faculty members in recent years, it is expected that the request to establish the master's program will soon be approved and students will be admitted. The educational status of the department from its establishment until now has been such that among the graduates of previous cohorts, a significant percentage have been admitted to first-tier universities of the country at the master's level, and those students who did not wish to continue their studies and whose first priority was practical activity have mainly been absorbed into their desired job market by passing the bar exam, judiciary exam, notary exam, etc.
In addition to its current faculty members, who are graduates of the best universities in the country or abroad, this department also endeavors to benefit from the collaboration of distinguished professors from other universities, in such a way that all courses offered in the program are taught by the most expert and capable professors available.
Despite the fact that Law is among the newly established fields at the University of Zanjan, its academic resources are nevertheless among the richest legal resources, and fortunately, through the efforts of the department members and the support of the university and the faculty over the past nearly ten years, domestic resources have been almost completely provided and an acceptable level of foreign resources has been made available for students' use, which is among the notable advantages of this field.
